on the 12th day...new photos

We had a surprisingly quiet night last night which of course had us waking up wondering if there was something wrong but happy to report that all is well this morning.

Here's an update on what's transpired since our last post:

- all pups have had their first puppy pedicures to help Momma Sweet Pea nurse as comfortably as possible and they will have these weekly

- temporary nicknames have been established without much effort (coming from their individual color or other markings or their personalities which are very quickly developing) - the nicknames help us to discuss who needs what and helps with logging their weight progress, etc..

- the smallest pup, Kink, needs extra attention and we've averted tube feeding with almost round the clock feeding management to get him extra nursing time and protect him from his stronger brothers and sisters pushing him out of the way - tried bottle feeding with milk replacement but he's having none of it.  Momma's milk is best anyway. Good news is that he is gaining weight, albeit only approximately 1.3 ounces per day compared to the 2/3 times that amount in his brothers/sisters.

- Momma is now on supplemental liquids too and we're almost there with the transfer of her previous diet of regular adult dog food to just high quality puppy food.  She's showing signs of a slight weight improvement so we're very relieved.

We've received a few donations along with a few gift cards and we'd like to say thank you again.  We are depending heavily on the generosity of others to help us do the best we can for this momma and her 10 pups.  We even received a $10 donation from a family with 2 unemployed adults with 2 children. Your note touched our hearts and we wish your family much good health and a fast road to economic recovery.  We are in a similar boat and having your help means even that much more to us.

If you or someone you know would like to help out in the care of Momma and her pups with either a gift card to Petsmart, Petco or Walmart or a donation, please send to: Kurt Schlough, PO Box 25661, Albuquerque, NM 87125.  We can also accept your help in the form of an online contribution by clicking here.  (These are not tax-deductible.) Any gift cards or monetary gifts that we receive and do not need to use by the end of our fostering time will be given to another foster family or animal rescue group.  Thank you for helping us to help Momma and her pups.

Below are the latest pics of Momma Sweet Pea and her pups.  We hope you enjoy them as much as we do:
